As we press on with even more pandemic parenting, we are starting our self-care and parenting tips back up again! Monday will be a self-care intention and Friday will be a parenting tip to start the weekend on the right foot!
Intention One: Self-Compassion:
“Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.” Christopher Germer
We are starting off our self-care intentions with perhaps one of the most important, and often neglected, themes of self-care—Self-Compassion.
Positive Self Talk:
If we’re honest, we are all probably fairy overwhelmed at this point in the game. There may be days when we feel like we got hardly anything done, or did hardly anything right. And then it creeps in—the negative self-talk. That little voice in your head that repeats over and over your blunders from the day. Then starts to make broad sweeping generalizations about how you might just not be “good at_____ “ (fill in the blank!). One thing I learned a long time ago was to pay attention to and name those voices. “Oh, there’s that negative self talk- I probably shouldn’t listen to those voices.” Try it-it’s very simple and yet incredibly effective. If you can, counter the voices by reminding yourself of what you’re doing right! We’ll pick up on more of this next Monday.
