Day 67: Ice excavation, The Letter Game, Turning into Yourself, and More Screen Time Tips

SELF-LOVE:

Tuning into your self. This week seems like a hard one for many. Something about the long haul setting in, or a very different summer on the horizon. Take a moment to really tune into yourself and ask what you need to feel supported and sustained during this time. Is it a family to create a pod with? More time in nature? Outsourcing laundry to a service?  There are many things we can't control right now, but perhaps there are a couple that we can, and that truly make us feel just a little or a lot better.

PARENTING TIP:

Screen time #4: Before your child begins her screen time, talk about what you will do after it is over. Maybe it's playing with Legos, playdough, or having a snack. Write this down. Somehow children are much more agreeable to turning off the screen when they have agreed ahead of time to what they will do next.

INDOOR ACTIVITY:

(Literacy) The letter game! Starting with the first letter in their name go on a scavenger hunt around your house for everything that starts with that letter. You can keep this going and each day doing a different letter from their name, or connect to the friends they miss by doing the first letter of a friend’s name each day.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY:

Ice Excavation: Trap a toy in ice and then let the fun begin as your child tries to free the toy. They can try watching it melt, cracking it on the ground, using a tool, or likely a combination of all three.
