Day 68: Gunny Sack, Tuning in, Movie Night, and Mystery Bricks

SELF-LOVE:

Tune into one another. During this time of managing kids, work and everything in between it can feel like you and your partner may be two ships passing in the night. After the kids have gone to bed, and before you jump into your own movie night or show, take a moment to just ask one another how you are doing with it all. It is likely that you are each having very different experiences and feelings about everything right now. Take a moment to just check in with one another, and maybe even ask if there is one little adjustment or shift that could make life a bit more manageable.

PARENTNG TIP:

Screen time #5: Movie night. Do you know about common sense media? A great non-profit that reviews movies by AGE and gives a breakdown of why (scary stuff, violence, etc). The parent comments are great and can really help you to decide if the movie will be right for your particular child, and give you a heads up for any scenes you may want to skip. They also review tv shows. An invaluable resource!

INDOOR ACTIVITY:

(Gross Motor) When your child just needs to get a little energy out but you can’t get outside. Turn a pillowcase into a gunny sack! Make sure they are on carpet as they may fall a couple times as they get the hang of it but it can be oh so much fun!

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY:

Similar to the ice activity yesterday, a wonderful site called Play At Home Mom has a great activity called mystery bricks. It might take gathering some materials, but it looks absolutely amazing.  http://www.playathomemomllc.com/2020/02/mystery-bricks-providing-heavy-work-for-children/
