Day 39: Boundaries, Siblings Fighting, and Earth Day Ideas

SELF-LOVE: Set a boundary just for you for alone time. Whether it's enjoying that cup of coffee first thing in the morning or an uninterrupted shower in the evening, designate a time that is yours and yours alone. Make sure everyone knows this is the time where you will be alone and have a moment just for you. Even if it's just 15 minutes, it will make a huge difference in your overall well being (and everyone else's).

PARENTING TIP: Siblings Fighting: I think it took me way too long to realize that a lot of the sibling fights were actually stemming from one sibling wanting more attention from another but not knowing how to get it! Young children aren't great at social entry skills and often find it easier to get negative attention rather than positive. Brainstorm with your child about different ways they can get positive attention from a sibling. You may even want to brainstorm for different scenarios like while at dinner, when you want them to play with you, when you want a hug, etc. Write the ideas down and remind your child when they need them!

INDOOR ACTIVITY: Celebrate Earth Day by making art with recycled materials. At my  son's preschool, they have an entire art program dedicated to this. It has been amazing to watch all three of my children continue to approach art in this I can make anything out of anything type of way.  All you need is some clean recycled materials, some masking tape for sticking things together, and your child's imagination. Try not to ask your child what they are making. Sometimes they may have a clear idea, but other times they are just enjoying the creation process and both are wonderful ways to approach art.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY: Celebrate Earth Day by planting some seeds! You can make your own "flower bomb" with soil and seeds rolled into a ball shape and allowed to dry, or maybe you are ready to plant the seeds you germinated from our tip a while back! You can also begin the germination process by using a paper towel in a ziplock back and any dried bean or seed from a piece of fruit. Happy Earth Day!
