SELF-LOVE: Checking in with ourselves - For many of us celebrating Passover or Easter this past week, we just did our first Social Distancing Holiday. While I hope there were some treasured moments (probably the ones you shared or saw others share on social media), there were also likely several other moments of sadness. Holidays are known to bring up some pretty big feelings, and if this past one brought up some even bigger ones, you’re not alone. Maybe it was the disappointment of the carefully planned Zoom holiday meet-ups, or the normal things that felt so much bigger - like the different traditions between you and your partner or the moments when your children lacked gratitude for all of your valiant efforts. Take a moment to check in with yourself. Give yourself the space to grieve a little about how “social distance holidays” are just not as amazing as being with friends and family on these special occasions. Maybe write down some thoughts in a journal or make a plan to call a friend or share your feelings with your partner. Know that the grief for these smallish things is real grief, and know that you’re not alone in these feelings.
PARENTING TIP: With this weekend likely leading to extra sugar consumption, proper tooth brushing may be an even higher priority. Are you having power struggles over daily tasks like brushing teeth? Encourage positive cooperation! Get them involved and make it a game. “Oh I think I can see those Easter jelly beans in there! Oh there’s the red one, over there is the green one, down here is the orange one!!! Phew, we got em!” Tune in tomorrow for more tooth brushing tips!
INDOOR ACTIVITY TIP: Find new uses for old toys. Here's a video of something you can do with Magnitiles to create dominoes!
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY TIP: Plant something! Spring is here and even the smallest of spaces can work for growing! Whether it’s in your kitchen window or you have a patch of dirt out the back here are some pantry items that will sprout! Make a germinator out of a damp paper towel in a ziplock bag (make sure to “water” your towel each day).
